About Me

Biography: Booker Tueller
Salt Lake City, Utah
Booker was born in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1970 where he embraced the desire to create at an early age. Booker began as a self taught artist and has always sought further development. His studies commenced with Heidi Darley, a local portrait artist. Noticing his goals and interests, she suggested he attend the Bridge Academy of Art in Provo, Utah. He was fortunate to be introduced to and learn from talented artist’s students, and academicians.
Booker studied art history with Ben McPherson, and composition and design using the figure with Sean Diediker. He also studied figurative drawing with Adam Ford and painting with J. Kirk Richards, as well as still life and landscape with Michael Workman. Booker studied anatomy and drawing under the direction of Justin Taylor. From his time spent with the Bridge Academy, Booker has become fascinated with a variety of subjects, finding particular interest in the human figure.
Booker continues to study working with local models and drawing groups. His work is collected privately and displayed at the Salt Lake County Council Chambers, Auditor’s Office, and at the Clark Planetarium.

Artist Statement: Booker Tueller
Salt Lake City, Utah
I find myself drawn to more expressive and descriptive brush strokes. I like the idea that a painting can be simple and yet beautiful.
I work from life when possible as it lends a deeper understanding of how light falls on the form. Although the environment I enjoyed at the Bridge Academy can’t be reproduced, I find workshops and open life drawing sessions conducive to learning and growing as a painter.
I strive to capture moments and gestures. I enjoy working with people and discovering the tension created between their interactions, "a joyful, playful awkwardness."
