One Door Opens

One Door Opens

I recently built an accent wall in my studio made from weathered barn wood along with a handmade turquoise barn style door. This display wall has warmed the space and adds a bit of character. It also serves a second purpose that provides me with much needed storage space. The door itself is what interested me the most. People often ask, “what do open doors symbolize?” Within art, doors can be viewed as a sort of mystery. Open doors typically symbolize a new beginning and a fresh start, perhaps a new chapter or a new adventure. Closed doors, on the other hand, may symbolize being blocked or trapped, forcing you to break through or find another way around.

One of my favorite quotes:

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said “Be an opener of doors.” I couldn’t agree more with his observation. Sometimes that’s just what an individual needs. Taking time to build this new accent wall has given me some appreciated time to stop and reflect on which door I’d like to open next, as well as which doors I’d like to close.
